Do you wonder what makes Tunisia the grand-child of Cyprus? Here a hint: Phoenicians! Being originally from Tunisia and living in Cyprus, it would be my pleasure to share with you the ties that link these two Mediterranean countries.
From Phoenician Carthage, once Rome's biggest rival to the world's second biggest Roman Amphitheatre in El Jem, our journey takes us through pittoresque villages like Sidi Bou Said and prestigious museums like Bardo which houses the richest collection of Roman mosaics in Africa. Kairouan and Mahdia were once the capitals of the Muslim world and the Medina of Tunis (Old Town) bears the best kept traces of 300 years of Ottoman presence in Tunisia.
Gastronomy highlights and a summary of the different ethnicities cohabiting in Tunisia round up our discovery and displays yet another tie to the multi-cultural Cyprus.
