A historical tour exploring Obidos and either Queluz Palace OR Batalha Monastery
On this private tour it will be just the 2 of you in the car!
Join me wandering the medieval streets of Obidos where I enjoy to drink the Ginja (when I am not driving!) and envy the lucky queen who was gifted this town by a besotted King.
Then you can either
Enjoy visiting my favorite palace that I have visited above all other places in Portugal, the palatial home of mad Queen Maria, Queluz Palace. Admire the stunning chandeliers in the ballroom and picture myself enjoying a dance around the floor.
OR
As a part-time priest in 2 English speaking churches in Lisbon I invite you to join me in a place close to my heart, the magnificent monastery in Batalha, built as a thank you to the Virgin Mary for victory in battle.
And if the sun shines, all of this we will do with the roof down.
Itinerary
After pick-up from your accommodation we drive North to the medieval town of Obidos. Explore the narrow streets and boutique shops. Drink some Ginja (having first had the opportunity to walk the castle walls!). Enjoy lunch in one of the many outside restaurants.
After lunch you have the option of either
Driving back towards Lisbon to visit the Palace of Queluz. Have an opportunity to explore this Baroque palace and find out the history behind it's famous mad resident.
OR
Head to the town of Batalha and have an opportunity to explore the impressive Dominican Monastery built in the town to thank the Virgo Mary for giving Portugal victory over the Castillians. Admire the Gothic architecture and large open spaces.
After a coffee in the square it is back to your accommodation in Lisbon.
