Immerse for three days in the tranquility of Alentejo with a full plan of local experiences

Three day tour in the Northeast corner of Alentejo, known as Upper Alentejo or Alto. In the hills of Upper ALentejo, close to the border with Spanish Extremadura where Serra of São Mamede stands, tall and green, unlike the rest of Alentejo.

Take this chance to experience the authenticity of Portugal traditions with a full program of experiences that I may adjust to your interests. I suggest the remote cliff top castles , visit and see how a olive oil press works, how to make lavender oil essence, cooking class of traditional Alentejo food in a farm that is also an open air museum, megalithic sites such as the highest menir of the Iberian peninsula or a roman city. Experience a unique Ride on a former railway.

I live between Carcavelos (near Lisbon) and Póvoa e Meadas, where my husband's ancestors belong, so I have a close relation with Upper Alentejo where I own a small cottage. This means a deeper knowledge of this corner of Portugal.

Itinerary

DAY 1 Around 8h30 we leave Lisbon and 2h30 minutes to reach Galegos. We visit an olive oil press and see how it is made. Then a lunch break at Portagem. Several restaurants, by the river offer many local flavors of regional cuisine. After lunch we shall do a visit of Castelo de Vide, with castle and Sinagoga, the village Fountain. Before checking in our Hotel in Castelo de Vide - we shall visit the tallest menir da Meada, a megalithic site.

DAY 2 Learn more about a Lavender estate, how to make lavender oil and taste their olive oil. This morning we plan a 3, 30 minutes walk between Castelo de Vide and Marvão, passing over an ancient path built and used since the romans. In Marvão we have lunch and time to explore. Later in a local estate we participate in a cooking class with local flavours and wines. Another tip, a ride on a railway where trains moved between Lisbon and Madrid.

DAY 3 Visit Ammaia roman ruins. Return confortably to Lisbon, enjoying the fabulous view
