United StatesPatrick was very knowledgeable, helpful, and flexible. He is very keen on the culture and happy to entertain all questions. He was very easy to understand as English is his first language. However, he speaks Japanese with ease and is fully versed in the history and culture of Tokyo and most of Japan. Recommend without reservation.

Hong KongPatrick is so knowledgable and passionate about Japan and her cultures/history.. we have learnt so much in the tour and really appreciate his careing and thoughtful attitude... he plans the tour well and the 8-hour walking tour was enjoyable and educational/informative. He brought us to a local small soba noodle shop for lunch which we could not find it ourselves for sure ... the owner was very nice and the quality was so good ; We wanted to go back again already . Strongly recommend him!

United StatesGreat tour that provided the cuktural context for the sites we visited. Patrick is knowledgeable and engaging in his commentary. This is not a tour of the top rated Trip Advisor sites but rather a view of Tokyo through its history. Patrick also provided excellent recommendations for shopping and dining. I loved it!

United StatesWe had a remarkable day with Patrick. His unique perspective on Japanese culture and history provided some amazing insights which we would never have discovered on our own. For anyone who is genuinely interested in learning more about Japan and Tokyo, rather than just sightseeing, I cannot recommend this highly enough.

United StatesExcellent tour! Patrick makes sure to provide you with historical, political, and cultural context to everything that he shows you. From emperial palace to stationary. This helps you see things from an entirely different prospective. He also took us to a great sobe place and showed us the correct way to eat those noodles. Our biggest regret was that he wasn't available to spend another day with us. Highly recommend!

United StatesSpent a wonderful day with Patrick in March. He did a fantastic job of describing the history of Toyko to my 2 kids (10 and 12) and personalizing it to their interests. He was also very helpful with recommending a driver and excellent restaurant in Kyoto. His deep knowledge of Japanese history and culture, and gift for skillfully translating it to a Western audience is a treasure.

ST PAUL, MN, United StatesPatrick was informed about Japan, however did not handle the logistics of the tour as well as we would have liked. It was a lengthy introduction that delayed us from meeting up with the other two and Patrick should have given a chance to understand why the delay occurred. explained and or apologized as to why we were so late compared
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Thank you for your comment, I appreciate even less than positive ones. It should be noted that 2 additional people were added at the last moment, and I did not know they would not be at the hotel at start time. It was unclear when and where we would meet. As adults they knew when and where the tour was to begin and I tried to accommodate as much as possible. I was also disappointed when they left 1/3 into the day without even a good bye or thank you. I even extended the tour so you could meet them later
Leonardo Yamamoto
BrazilImpressively knowledgeable about history and geopolitics of Japan and the region. Intense character, fast walker and a master of Tokyo subway system. Patrick can give an honest Western perspective on Japanese society and its issues. Prepare to be tired by the end of the day!
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Thank you Leonardo and Brittney! It was a pleasure to spend the day with you in Tokyo. Hope to see you again!

United StatesPatrick is a historian, a decades-long Tokyo resident and a native-born American. The combination means you'll have an insightful and interesting guide who can explain deep cultural and historic points in English easily. We learned a lot and really enjoyed the time that we spent with him -- definitely one of the best all-day guides we've ever used. Come prepared to walk, though -- we covered a lot of Tokyo, mostly on foot with some subways and trains.
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Hello Mike, Thank you for your kind review. It was a pleasure meeting you both and having the pleasure to spend the day together. I hope that you enjoy your photos, and that I will see you over this way again!

CanadaPatrick did a fantastic job introducing us to Japan. We met him on our first day for a walking/subway tour of the city. I love Edo period history and he was able to answer all of my questions.

MexicoA really enjoyable tour. Patrick's knowledge is excellent and the insight he gives in to the city and its history is informative and insightful. I had a one to one tour and the eight hours passed by so quickly. IHighly recommended for anybody wanting to gain a historical insight to Tokyo in the company of a great guide eho knows his stuff!
Mark Gisse
United StatesPatrick was a pleasure to work with before and during the tour. He was very knowledgeable of the city and you could tell that he liked what he was doing and not just working for a paycheck. There were more historical facts than we wanted but I know if we would have told him he would have altered the tour to meet our exact needs. He made sure we knew our transportation requirements at the end of the tour and helped us to get the most out of the time we had.
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Thank you for your kind comments! I am sorry about the overkill on the history of Tokyo, but even though Tokyo is a relatively young city, its history is rich in details and stories. I hope to see you all over here again in the not too distant future.

CanadaThis was a very interesting walking tour of Tokyo. Patrick gave great historical background of the city and how it developed. We had a wonderful day and enjoyed it thoroughly. The sights were well chosen and really represented a nice overall sampling of the attractions in Tokyo. Thoroughly enjoyed lunch with Patrick and the opportunity to hear what it is like to live in Japan. Would certainly highly recommend Patrick.

United StatesPatrick gave my son and I a two day tour of Tokyo that was outstanding. As travelers from NY, we likes the fact that there were no language barriers since he is from Seattle He knows Tokyo like the back of his hand , and effortlessly shared his knowledge with us. If you are traveling to Tokyo for the first time , a tour guide is a must. Book with Patrick , and you will get a first class tour. D.P. NYC

Atlanta, GA, United StatesYou have my families unconditional endorsement of Patrick as your guide. The five of us had a delightful day touring Tokyo with him. Patrick has fully immersed himself into the Japanese language and culture, and he is a treasure trove of history that brings to life Tokyo and Japan. As an anthropologists, my standards for cultural tours are fairly high, and Patrick met and exceeded my expectations. You will not be disappointed.
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: The Cook Family was a pleasure, and if all my guests were as engaging and interested in Japan as they were, not to mention fun, I could not ask for more.
